Why, Why, Why???

posted in: personal growth - No Comments

arielleMy oldest granddaughter has reached that special age of three.

You know what that means??

That’s right…. it’s the ‘why‘ age!

Where’s uncle? In his room.. WHY?

Because he’s sleeping… WHY?

Because it’s nighttime… WHY?

Because the sun is sleeping… WHY?

and so it continues… this constant question to answers. Every statement confronted with the dreaded why.

The big question though is when did you STOP asking why?

I overheard a casual statement the other day that really stopped me in my thinking. Essentially, knowledge is limited but imagination is unlimited. What a great thought. If there is a limit to what we know, there really is no limit to what we can imagine and you can jumpstart imagination by asking that simple question… WHY?

My granddaughter is just getting to know her world. As a result there is so much she doesn’t know, so much to discover and learn. Although the question might get agitating to the adults in her life, for her it’s the gateway to her future. Maybe, just maybe it’s also the gateway to your’s.

What do you think? Let’s talk!

Disciple Means Learner

libraryMy wife had an awesome word on Sunday while taking up the offering. I noticed a comment about it on twitter

@murraytlm thought Ps. Kim’s word on disciples yesterday was awesome! Very wise and insightful woman of God…

She used the disciple word and reminded me/us that disciple still means to be a learner.

Matthew 28:19 (NLT) Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Why is it that we commonly encounter people who don’t want to learn new things? And why is that a common criticism of the church and Christians?

usbI forgot that being a disciple means constantly learning new ways of communicating. Learning how to use twitter, a cellphone and facebook.

Learning new words like ‘Google’ and ‘texting’.

Can you actually be a disciple of Jesus and not be willing to learn? I think that could be an interesting conversation.
