The Candidates in this Riding are Ticking Me Off!

RANT ALERT!

Politicians in my riding are missing out on an actual opportunity to connect with their potential constituents.

The election is monday and the candidates have their volunteers manning the phones. Phoning registered voters in the riding and asking for their vote. I’ve answered calls from two of the candidates already and my caller display shows at least three other calls. That’s not considering that the calls may be coming from unknown numbers like the one I answered today. Seriously? Unknown number? Are you afraid I won’t answer your call or you don’t want anyone to know who you are?

The only question I’ve actually been asked on these phone calls is: can we count on your vote? What kind of question is that? If they can count on my vote then what? No further need to talk to me? What is this? An opinion poll?

How about this? Why don’t you take the opportunity on this one personal contact you have with me to ask me what I think? About what? About anything!

Dear Mr/Ms Political candidate,

Please don’t pretend you care about your potential constituents if you don’t ask them what they care about. You’ve wasted your one opportunity to convince me that you would actually represent me. Honestly, I’m really disappointed in you.

Sincerely,

Dave Olson

I think that you are completely correct with the statement that they do not want to know what your opinion is. They all have platforms and in coordination with those, they have the way that they will govern figured out to the last, unorganized detail. And really, the ndp is the only party who is willing to lay out a budget thus far. My only view on those calls is to ask your own questions. That’s how you can get your answers and its also the only realistic way to come to a party conclusion since they have little to no time for yheir supporters and potential supporters unless you’re attending a rally in their name. Politics sucks.

I am simply stupefied that their only question was whether I would vote for them or not. It seems as if our country is being run by opinion polls rather than leaders. I find that disappointing. Where are the courageous leaders?
