Celebrate the unique YOU

A couple of days ago uhmm over a week ago, I posted an article about increasing your capacity.

Okay… It’s been a while but I’m working pretty hard to take $100 off Aaron at Todayisthatday.com. I signed up for the 1000 Fists-to-Freedom challenge and I did my first solo flight last week.

Anywhooo… back to the point!

As I think about it now, the questions I asked were actually pretty hard.

What makes you unique?

When you find the key to your uniqueness, you begin to unlock the potential of your purpose. The YOU in you. Finding that key will allow you to focus on your strengths and ultimately achieve what you are created to accomplish.

So here’s a couple of ideas to help you on your journey to finding the few things you should do more of.

  • First think about what you enjoy
I mean what really makes you happy. Is it working with people? Is it meeting new people? Is it finding solutions to problems, or creating something that others enjoy? Think about it!
  • Now think about what comes easy for you
This is quite a bit harder because we don’t usually notice what comes easy. Because it’s just… easy!
But think hard. Here’s another hint. What gets you frustrated when others don’t “get it”? You know the thing that comes so easy to you and you don’t understand why your (wife, co-worker, friend, child) doesn’t get it or can’t do it. Maybe that’s because it comes easy to you.

Also you might want to check out the comments on my last article for some ideas. We’ve got some really unique people who hang around here.

After you think, I’d love to hear about it. Let’s talk!

Congrats on your first solo flight!

Thank you for breaking these questions down for us. I would find it difficult to answer what comes easy for me, but thinking about it the way you’ve presented it, makes it… easier!

I enjoy helping people grow and learn. Sometimes I think if they will not grow (mature, learn about themselves, become a better person) from my help, I don’t want to waste my time with them and it irritates me when people refuse to learn and are more satisfied with old problems than new solutions! I am learning how to be more gracious :)

What comes easy for me? Yoga. But I don’t think that’s what you mean! I will have to get back to you on this question…

    LaurenMarie,

Yoga… so does that mean exercize or fitness or caring about yourself is easy for you? Maybe relaxing? Just a few more ideas!

I meant more in terms of getting into the poses. I do yoga with my family (mom, stepdad, husband) and they’re always commenting on how easy I make it look :D

Ok, thought about it a bit and…

Learning comes easily to me. I always excelled in school and I love learning new things; although, I found it immensely difficult to read textbooks… never retained that info very well! Maybe it’s because I was “forced” to do it. I learn things faster when people show me how to do it rather than reading it, but if it’s something exciting to me, I will make myself go through the chapter or tutorial (blog posts are not the same!). Although I never made it into calculus, I enjoyed Trig, Statistics and Pre-calc. I’ve always had a knack for English (nouns, verbs, adjectives) and Literature, and I wish I could’ve taken more than 5 years of Spanish in school. I really loved it.

Do we sense a theme of learning in my life? Hmm…

Creative appreication, especially in the form of visual art, comes easy to me. I’m a marketing person in an advertising & design firm clocking at least 10 hours a day, and I’m not complaining. I like paintings and I spent my spare cash collecting them. I enjoy talking, sharing and learning on both marketing/advertising and paintings. I never thought of switching career, but I do think of how to expand the playing ground now and then to have more fun. I’m also wondering how to share my painting glazing and collecting hobby to more people who kept asking how I know what to buy, collect and invest. Hmmm, I guess I would always be in the creative industry, one way or another.

Anyway, Dave, nice to have you back.

LaurenMarie… I wondered in your first comment if your frustration with others not wanting to learn might point you to the fact that you love learning. Way to go!

Vivienne… wow the painting collection sounds really cool. What are you going to do with all of them?

Hang them at home or in office, for pleasure and for investment. For those that my walls are too small, I let the gallery keeps them for me at their aircon warehouse :) I still owe you “Face behind the Blog”, and there I probably show a few of them :)
