Singing the “blogging song” around the campfire

"If you could read my mind love
What a tale my thoughts could tell
Just like an old time movie
bout a ghost from a wishin well"

I can’t get the words to this Gordon Lightfoot song out of my mind. Don’t tell my friend Wayne. I’m always bugging him about how he idolizes Gordon and he would never let me live it down.

Blogging is singing a song.

Words, emotions, thoughts and ME.

Sometimes I’m singing in the shower. I don’t really care who hears me. I may get the words mixed up. I fill in what others have written and sung with my own variations. The words don’t all belong to me. It doesn’t always make sense, but it’s usually unique.

Sometimes that song is a trio. Others contribute their harmonies. On-key and sometimes off-key voices join together to create what would otherwise be thin and lonely. You can clearly hear the distinctions but somehow they blend together.

Sometimes that song is an anthem. Loud and full of so many voices. Others are singing the same song as you. The tenors, baritones, altos and sopranos fill in the empty spaces. The words are nearly the same but the melodies… and the harmonies are rich and full. Now we have a loud voice.

…and sometimes it’s a campfire sing-along. And yes Adam it may even be "Kumbayah". That’s when the song no longer matters. It’s only the SINGING that matters!

I wasn’t really looking for a blogging metaphor, it just got stuck in my head.

I think Char started it, then Liz began to conduct. Dawud, Phil and Carolyn joined in and soon the chorus was being sung by many others. Although I’ve never heard this particular song before… It’s really does sound a lot like "kumbayah"

What do you think?

I remember that song from summer camp many moons ago. Thanks for adding your take on this project. Very well put.

Liz and Char… we couldn’t sing the song if you two didn’t keep pushing us hesitant singers. Thanks!

Ahem, . . . not that I think anyone was talking, but the only movie I know that would be revlevant is . . . .”Blogging in the Rain.”

This one is so apt! Some of my blog posts are sung off-key in the shower, where I’m the only audience…

So…. this is what my dad does with all his spare time… I’ve been thinking theres a great project basically sitting behind me in the form of a Firebird that could use some of this TLC. Maybe we’ll just put that at the top of our effective TO DO list.

Well… I’m glad to see a fan base out here… well I think I’m glad, I guess I’m in awe.

    Keep it kickin!

    Dave,
It’s not authentic to pretend you are your own child on your blog. :)

Yeah… this is one time I thought I should probably delete a comment. But hey… the kid’s gotta have a voice too. Even if it’s off-key.
