Your Turn: Where do you find ‘AHA!’ moments

If insight and inspiration are keys to shifting dimensions, how do you get them?

What set’s you up for that “aha!” moment?

That lightbulb moment when something just clicks. You go from confusion to absolute clarity in a nanosecond.

I find that I get more ‘aha’ moments when I hang around with creative people, or read a stimulating book. Usually fiction!

What kind of environment produces those moments for you?

What do you do to get a moment of insight?

When you are trying to shift your mindset, what do you do?

Let’s talk about it and see what happens! I want to know what you think… and how.

To get us started I want to ask Adam, Aaron, Dawud, Tammy, Vivienne and Jonathan to share how it works for them.

Taking it to the next level… whaaaat? – Part Two

Are you ready to take it to the next level?

In the last post I talked about the difference between a horizontal and a dimensional shift. In the chart below you can see that hard work and an increased skill level will only move you along a horizontal level. To shift dimensionally, you will need a changed mindset. Chris Garrett brought up the shift from employee to entrepreneur so let’s use that for an example. For instance, an employee who works harder and gains more skill becomes a better employee. To become an entrepreneur requires a different way of thinking more than hard work.

So how do you know if where you want to go requires a dimensional shift or not?

The simple answer is that if hard work and increased skill doesn’t get you where you are trying to go, then you need a dimensional shift. In fact if you are trying to shift dimensionally by working harder or learning a new skill, you will end up extremely frustrated. So frustrated that eventually you will settle back down to your existing level.

Just because you call yourself an entrepreneur doesn’t mean you are. You could be an employee masquerading as a business owner. If that’s the case you will become increasingly frustrated until you just want to go back to being an employee. The only way to secure the new level is with a new way of thinking.

Make the shift!

So where do you need a mindset adjustment? What level are you trying to reach? How are you going to get there and how are you going to stay there? Let’s talk about it and see how we can help each other.

Taking it to the next level… whaaaat? – Part One

With everyone talking about taking it to the next level, how about some help?

What does it mean to get to the next level?

What do I do to get there?

Horizontal Level

We typically grow along a horizontal level. By that I mean most of our growth takes place along the same dimension. For instance, we may graduate from owning a small house to owning a larger home. We may learn how to drive a small car then grow into driving an SUV or  a semi. Or… maybe we grow our sales figures from $100,000 to $1,000,000. These examples all represent growth along a horizontal level. To grow along a horizontal level you need to apply hard work and possibly a change in your skill set.

Dimensional Level

Here’s where it really gets interesting. A dimensional shift occurs when a new mindset is needed in order to grow. You shift when you break the existing rules in your life. Examples might include going from being a tenant to being a homeowner; going from homeowner to landlord; employee to manager; manager to business owner; no children to first child; follower to leader. In each of these cases to successfully make the shift you must change your mindset. To get to a new level dimensionally can not be accomplished by hard work or new skills alone.

In part two of this series, I want to talk about how to identify the type of shift you need to make. Stay tuned!

What’s your experience with horizontal or dimensional shifts? Let’s talk.
