Seriously, this is part of The Face Behind the Blog Collection started by David Airey. Personally I’m really excited to participate. The more we get to know each other the stronger the relationships we can build. So here’s my contribution. Hopefully these pictures will tell more than my thousand words.

Kim and I celebrated our 25th Anniversary on September 5, 2006 with over 100 friends and a big fiesta. Unlike Dawud and Sabira, we knew each other 8 months before we married.

Our immediate family. From left to right, our oldest son Joel with his wife Sarah and their daughter Arielle, Kim and I, our oldest daughter Jessica and her husband John, our youngest son Josiah and our youngest daughter Johanna.

Christmas family dinner (2006). Of course I had to take the picture. We are fortunate to have all of our children living near us. We are pretty close as a family.

Arielle’s first Christmas. I actually think her dad was much more excited than she was.

Our house at the beginning of January 2007. We’ve lived in Revelstoke for almost 17 years and this was the most snow I’ve seen yet.

Kim, Josiah and Johanna at the memorial near Ground Zero. It was a very emotional morning. We visited the Vietnam Veteran’s Plaza, the Museum of Jewish Heritage and then Ground Zero in one day. I was an emotional wreck. We have travelled quite a bit. In fact as I write this I can hear my kids planning our next family vacation. We’ll all travel to Disney World.

After being Revelstoke Princess for one year, Johanna competed in the BC Ambassador Program. This is right after she placed as part of the Ambassador Team. We are really proud of her achievements. She is currently in college with plans to get into journalism.

This is what it looks like to be brand new grandparents. Only moments old! Arielle was born September 6, 2006. One day after our anniversary.

My parents, their children, grandchildren and great granddaughter.

The most beautiful little girl in the world. I am only slightly biased. Becoming a grandfather brought on my version of a mid-life crisis. I actually couldn’t bear to be called grandpa so I asked if she could call me "Papa" instead. Somehow that was easier to handle.

I’m currently trying to get my private pilot’s license. My instructor is young enough to have been one of my kids so that’s a bit different. I’m absolutely loving the experience.

Okay! So now you know a little bit more about me. I have a great family that I love. I spend as much time with them as I can. Fortunately I have been able to arrange my schedule to do that.

Enough about me. Let’s talk! Since I’ve already opened up the conversation, feel free to join in. Tell me what you think of my photos and family. Ask me about being a grandpa. Tell me about YOU!

    Sometimes I’d love to see more snow here in Scotland, much like you got earlier in the year.

    Best of luck with your pilots licence! It’s an ambition of mine to get one someday too.

    Just for the record… our average annual snowfall is in the neighbourhood of 10metres. Are you sure you want that much snow in Scotland? :grin:

  7. Dave, I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed looking at the photos, getting the kind of glimpse of you that I haven’t had before now. This “face behind the blog” meme has been a whole lot more wonderful than I thought it would be when I first heard of it. Thanks for passing the torch!

    And David in Scotland: My mum’s mum was from Fife and I finally got there in the 90s. I was so in love with Scotland and the family I met there (including a cousin in Edinburgh) that I was ready to move there immediately! You live in a beautiful part of the world.

  9. 10 Meters?! I shall never complain about a Chicago winter again.

    My kids call their grandpa Papa too. He used to bribe them with a dollar when they were babies to get them to say it before they said ‘mama’. It worked with my youngest. :???:

  10. Wendy… I know 10 metres is a bit shocking but you get used to it. We do have some of the best heli-skiing and heli-boarding in the continent.

    I think I like the bribery idea. How young did he start? Is 8 months too young? :smile:

    Scotland really is a beautiful country! I love Edinburgh’s architecture and the green areas that surround it.

  14. Dave, I really enjoyed discovering the face behind this blog and looking at your family pictures. You look like a very happy and devoted to each other family.

    I hope you won’t be offended if I politely decline your tagging. I don’t think I’m ready to reveal myself and my family to the blogiverse due to various privacy reasons. I don’t mind being transparent in my writing but posting pictures of my family for the entire blogiverse is a big step for me. Hope you understand and won’t take it personally.
