Find your productivity Zone for greater…. uhmm… productivity!

think
Tony at Success from the Nest has some thoughts on finding your ideal workday.

I’ve decided that today isn’t mine.

Seriously I’ve found that I have two productive time zones in my day. I’m most productive from about 10:30am to 1pm and then between about 8pm and 11pm.

How about you? What is your ideal work time? Do you work best at night? My friend Jonathan always seems to be up at 2:00am writing comments. Judging by the timestamps, I’d say that Liz Strauss may be a morning person. Or is 4:30am still night?

What about you?

Morning, afternoon or evening? When are you the most productive? Do you know why? Let’s talk!

    Hi Dave,

I keep struggling against it, but my most productive/creative time tends to be evening and late night. Makes it a challenge when burning the candle at both ends.

I try to avoid early morning appointments.

    Hi Sandy,

Welcome. You sound very much like me. My mind just doesn’t get clear before maybe 10am. Thanks for starting the conversation.

hehe, yeah i find my most “productive” moments are between 10pm and 3am. Also i have a lot of recording studio sessions and it usually ends around 1am, so by the time i get back home, it’s 2am, so i check my e-mails, reply to posts and comment :) It’s like a “blogging to sleep” kinda thing

  • Dave

Okay let me get this straight Jon… you’re saying blogging puts you to sleep… right?

  • http://smartwealthyrich.com/ Jonathan-C. Phillips

hahaha, yeah, well, usually i come back from the studio (when i have a session or something) and i’m kinda tired, but can’t help but open my e-mail program, and check my blog, then, all of the sudden, bam! i’m awake! then i slowly gets tired, so in fact blogging wakes me up, then helps me sleep! lol (i know i know!)

You know what, it’s when i start checking my blog stats, alexa, technorati and all that stuff that i start yawning! hehe so it’s not “directly related” to blogging i guess :)

I can be pretty productive any time of day. For me, it’s more to do with environment. Being alone, able to concentrate, focus the mind. It’s hard to do that with family around. So, I get up quite early, often get to bed later than others – or take myself off to the library after work if I have an hour or two to spare in the early afternoon.

Rory… so you’re saying you can be more productive in England than say… Canada?

My best time is the morning — if I had my druthers (that is, if my wife and kids would be okay with it), I’d work from about 7am to 3 or 4 pm.

    Hmm, maybe I should…

I read a book by an osteopath years ago, who said that of his 17,000 or so patients, he found almost a 100% correlation between “people who were born in the morning are morning people,” and, “people born after noon are night people.”

I’ve seen it to be pretty true, too, except in people who got on night schedules from years of college-exam cramming, or partying, or… and still, the debate is out on that one. Because, just because something has become habitual, doesn’t mean it’s the best for us…

Hey Adam… If you want the morning shift that would be A-Okay with me. I’ll take the night shift.

Interesting about what time you were born… now I’m gonna have to ask my mother about it. Look out… here’s comes the labour story!

  • http://smartwealthyrich.com/ Jonathan-C. Phillips

umm, really interesting, i was born around 1am, so i guess that’s why my most productive and creative moments are at night :)

    So Dave, what about you?

  • DaveOlson

Jon… don’t know what time I was born. Sometime during the day (or night) I think  I knew there was something else I was going to ask my mom yesterday when I called her.
