The fine print on the mutual fund advertisement reads
“past performance is not a guarantee of future results”
Few people believe it
- “But you don’t know what I’ve gone through!”
…you’re right I don’t but I’m willing to help you keep going - “But my family never believed in me.”
…I’m sorry they didn’t see the potential that is you…I really am! - “But I’ve made some huge mistakes in the past.”
…then it’s time to do something different …let’s do it!
Keep four things in mind:
- Your past does not restrict your future
- Your past does not define your future
- Past failures are just that: past
- Past successes are just that: past
You can call them lessons, successes or regrets but unless you bring them into your present they are the past.
Some people live like the future will just be a reflection of the past.
Your future is ahead of you. Stop letting what is behind you guide your path. Rather let what is ahead of you guide your path.
Let me ask you this:
Are you dwelling on your past successes?
When you look at a new project or relationship, do you immediately compare it with how you did on the last one?
What one thing could make today a fresh start?
