Your success only exists in other people!

questionDoes it ever seem weird to you how some people just don’t seem to “get” it?

“It’s my blog and I can do whatever I want with it.”

In the last few days I’ve come across this sentiment in some of the blogs that I read. While technically true, it is a sad commentary on the future. I wish in our independence we could come to the realization of this truth:

Our success exists only in other people

I like what Mike Sansone says in his Blogger Face-off with Liz Strauss. His secret of success in one word is: others.
Try this…

  • giftDevelop generosity. Be a giving person. Giving is the forte of really big people. Notice I didn’t say rich people, I said big people. Just get into the habit of giving. Give links, give compliments, give comments, give opportunities, give to great causes. (I personally really like Kiva.org)

  • Practice encouragement. One of the greatest things you can give another person is encouragement. Use the words “You can do it!“. Go ahead and say it. Encourage someone to try something new. I don’t know a single person who would not benefit from you believing in them. I know I would.

  • Sow and Reap (Law of Attraction). Simply stated, what you give, you get back. Criticism returns criticism, sarcasm returns the same. On the other hand, laughter returns laughter and encouragement returns more encouragement. Whatever you want in your own life, you must put into the lives of others. It’s the Law.

  1. Random acts of kindness. I suppose these are related to all your points above, but I find that acting in that way, without any other agenda, helps someone become more successful. I find that if someone needs something, then a gift from a stranger can have more of an impact than a gift from a friend. By gift, I don’t necessarily mean money or a physical object, sometimes just an encouraging word will do.

I very much believe in the reap/sow principle. When you are kind and generous to those around you, it comes back. Sometimes in ways that you don’t expect.

  2. Hi Ripley, You’re right. Random acts of kindness should be included in the list.

It is exciting when things come back in ways you don’t expect too.

  3. [...] Contagious generosity is one sure way of enlarging your spirit. So I want to try a group experiment. I mentioned before that Kiva.org is one of my favourite organizations for helping people. [...]
