I know I promised more on this topic two days ago but I went snowboarding and the next day I could hardly move my arms let alone write a post. Sorry! I did have a blast riding though
Then something else crazy happened too. While I am in the middle of writing this post, I get a gall bladder attack. As a result this post is now more than two days late.
On to the important things..
keeping things clean
In some ways it seems like this is totally unrelated to either self-discipline or productivity. Well I guess the productivity tie-in should be fairly obvious. If things are neat and tidy, then it should be easier to get things done. You can find things.
You spend less time searching and more time producing.
Now the tie-in to self-discipline is even more important.
Start by making a decision to simply put everything away after you are finished with them. Once you start on that path two things will happen.
- First, you will develop a habit or a discipline that is fairly easy to implement. Many of the changes in discipline will be much harder than this. Simply starting to keep things tidy will enhance your discipline. Every time you clean up rather than leave a mess you are establishing a new pattern. If you continue in the pattern you will find strength to discipline yourself in other areas.
- Second, the inner satisfaction that comes from cleaning something will motivate you to continue. While it is a bit hard to explain, there is certainly a motivational charge when you keep things clean. Anyone who is able to bring order to their day to day life, establishes a strong regulated lifestyle. The perfect foundation upon which to build success.
What do you think? How does keeping things clean help you with your personal discipline? Let me know in the comments.
