How easy to get off track…

posted in: personal growth, self-discipline

Okay so today I’m sitting at my computer getting ready to continue down the road to self-discipline. I’ve got my list out and I’ve started doing some of the items on my current work page. So far so good. That is until I get to an item that involves getting on the computer.

As soon as I get onto the computer, I start thinking about my blog and of course some of the other blogs I read. I quickly load up Vienna for a quick check of my new feeds and that’s it. It’s all over…

Since I got on the computer my productivity went into the toilet. I have not completed one other item on my list. Oh I am a little farther on a couple of them but ultimately I’m not getting anywhere. HELP!!

On the bright side, I did manage to find some great blogs about personal growth. :-(

For instance, check out the ideas at the lifecoachesblog.com. There’s a particulary good post about stretching. Also Today is that Day has a load of links that could help you grow.

Do you have any ideas for me? Oh I did manage to finish one item on the list: blog today!

Do you mean you have several items on your list that do not involve the computer, but once you get on the computer they all get forgotten? Or do you mean that you have several items that need to be done on the computer, but once you open the feed reader that’s it for the day?

Forgive me, Dave, I’ve been lurking. I have been following your journey with interest, but I haven’t really seen a way to drop in.

I hope you don’t mind a barrage of questions.

    Rory,

My news reader seems to be a huge distraction. I’m an information person and once I start gathering information, I forget about other things. Both the items that need to get done on the computer and other things as well.

Dave, me and you seem to share an addiction (and I use the word carelessly). Once I get the feed reader open, it’s hopeless. Look at me now, it’s 00.32 in the morning, and I’m getting up at 5.00am.

I’m going to go now. I’ll sleep on it, and check back on this post tomorrow.

Rory, I think your addiction must be even worse than mine.
